Text Conversation with Jonessa

Jonessa: Boys are stinky and smelly and now I have to raise one. You'll help, right? :)

Me: It's a boy!!!!! {she sprang the sex of the baby on me...just like that}

Me: OMG..I beat Coach {the husband} is freakin' thrilled.

Jonessa: He shows little emotion. Like if you got Jeremy a meet-and-greet with Metallica he'd prolly be like, 'Thanks, Baby.' I was raised with girls. I don't know what to do with a boy.

Me: Oh no...he's thrilled. I know it. Boys are easy! {says the woman with no children} Give em something to smash and they are happy.

Jonessa: Good point. And I do like blue. Plus, girls are so moody. I know I am.

Me: SSooo..have y'all discussed names?

Jonessa: I want Alex but Coach does not. If I have to carry him for nine months, shouldn't I get to name him? Seems like a fair deal to me.

Me: LOL..that's not the way it works, Jonessa. Let Coach name him and we'll call him Alex anyways. OOhh, and just because you said you would name your baby Alex doesn't mean you have to. {this is in reference to Jonessa promising an old friend years and years and YEARS ago that she would name her first born son after him}

Jonessa: Oh, the infinite wisdom of Jinny. This is why I come to you. :) {see, she understands how right I always am..now, how to get the rest of the world hip to this idea}

Me: I say you name him Jethro. Jethro Alexander. See what Coach thinks of that.

Jonessa: Coach already calls him Ebenezer. I'm trying to break him of that.

Me: Just swat him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper..LOL

Jonessa: LOL

Conversations at Home

Him: The guy at the store that checked me out..

Me: Some guy at the store checked you out?! Do I need to go pop him in the eye?

Him: *gives me the 'I tolerate you because I love you' look* That's not what I meant.

Fill in the Blank Friday

Play Along!

1. My favorite color is...I think my answer to this question probably changes every time it's asked. I find myself drawn to purple.

2. My travel destination of choice is...the mountains. I know my mind wants to go automatically to a beach..and the beach is nice..but I've decided that its not my ideal vacation. I was to be some place cool, and green, and peaceful..with the wind singing through the trees and breathtaking sunsets over the snow capped mountaintops.

3. My favorite food is...chocolate. I love dark chocolate with sea salt, chocolate covered fruit, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate ice cream, brownies...

4. My happy place is...in my husbands arms. All I need is a hug and everything seems to right itself.

5. My favorite saying is...'If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it'. I don't go around spouting this all the time..but I do love the saying.

6. My dirty little secret is...I really don't know what I'm doing. SSShhhh...don't tell anyone.

7. Something friends might say about me is that I...really do know what I'm doing. HA...I have them all fooled.

Don't look at me like that...I use to be fat.

Sometimes, when I'm at the gym, I feel like some of the 'fluffier' women are eye-balling me. The same way I use to eye-ball skinny girls when I was heavier. Like, 'Oh..look at her, with her cute little tank top and yoga pants..with her cute little ponytail...she probably eats whatever she wants...she's probably never had to lay down to zip up her pants...how long has she been on that elliptical machine..has she even broken a sweat? She probably never sweats'.

You get the idea.

Anyway, it got me thinking that when I was heavier I was so jealous of the skinny girls that I never once stopped to think that some of them might have been where I was. It makes me want to blurt out 'I use to be fat! I swear!' But I'm afraid that might get me kicked out of the gym.

Secret to a Successful Marriage #254

Saying 'Thank you' when your spouse hands you a napkin for dinner. Even when he hands you a napkin for dinner every single night.

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Oh hai!

Sorry for my lack of posting this last week. I did manage to at least post SOMETHING, but I feel like my usual enthusiasm was missing. Getting my new purse was truly the highlight of my week. Other than that it was not so bueno.

1. We had overtime at work. Not much, thank goodness, but enough to slightly throw off the rest of my day and make me feel all discombobulated.

2. It was "hell week" so my emotions were like the worst kind of roller coaster ride. I was up and then I was down. I was laughing, and then I was crying. I was pissed off a lot. I tend to just keep to myself when I'm having all these crazy emotions and thoughts. I know it will pass, so I don't really want to concern anyone with my crazy ranting (although, thanks to my bestie Jonessa for having a three hour phone call with me earlier this week..it really helped).

3. The weather is starting to get to me, people. I feel like I am going stir crazy. I'm tired of looking at the inside of this house. I mean, I LOVE my house, but I so tired of not being able to enjoy my back patio..or take the dogs for more walks..or..or..just standing outside. It's too freakin' hot! Everything is dying, my lawn is yellow, my patio furniture is covered in a fine layer of Texas dust. The wind blows..but it's never a nice cool breeze. OH no, it's like when you open the oven..that kind of 'breeze'. I'm just so very ready for the weather to calm down a little so that I can step outside of this house.

4. Oh yeah, and I was so very tired all week long. Combine the OT, with the gym, with the 'hell week', AND Jeremy was feeling sick, PLUS I couldn't seem to make myself go to bed at a decent hour...made for one very cranky, tired, emotionally drained, stir crazy Jinny.

Hopefully things will be better this coming week. For now, I'm going to the movies..where it's dark, and cold, and not the inside of my house.

OAT..just a little something

'Who is THAT?', Travis practically whistled as he stared out of the floor to ceiling windows. The woman who was making her way across the parking lot was a show stopper and had totally stopped him dead in his tracks. As he lost himself in the swish of her hips a bright pink squishy ball nailed him right in the back of his head. 'That..is our 12:00 appointment', Cookie huffed. She was squeezing a neon blue squishy ball, eyeing Travis as if debating wither or not to throw that one at him too.

Dylan wanted to laugh at Cookie's antics, but couldn't muster even a grin. His past was about to sashay her way through his door, right back into his life, and he was so fucked.

*names keep changing because I can't decide who wants to be called what..but it will work itself out*

*Happy Dance*

My birthday has come early with the arrival of this package!

This is the first designer handbag I have ever owned. My two besties have both given me Coach wristlets {which I love..Do they know me or what?}, but this is the first full sized handbag. Jeremy was shaking his head at me, and smirking, the whole time I unwrapped her. She is beautiful..and she feels so good..and smells so good {Yeah, I sniffed my purse..WHAT?!}.

Dreams are for Dreamers

I received the postcard in the mail from my doctor regarding my yearly check up about a month ago. Besides being completely healthy the card also noted that I was pregnant. I was shocked and surprised and thrilled! Before I could even tell Jeremy he knew, 'You're pregnant..aren't you?' He said with a huge smile on his face. 'How did you know?!' I gasped, 'It's a miracle'. We were both so...happy. As we hugged each other I thought that I had to wait until I was further along before I could tell anyone else..and how hard that was going to be.

And then I woke up.

Not cool, Morpheus, not cool.

It was a rough morning.

Wee Bit Wednesday!

{one} what’s the #1 most played song on your iPod (or whatever you use)?
Jennifer Lopez's new song 'On The Floor'. Love that song. But, I also love my Pit Bull songs and my Far East Movement songs..they all get my booty shaking.

{two} what’s your favorite type of exercise?
Zumba. It is so much fun!! The hour flies by, the music is great, and I'm sweating by the end of it.

{three} what’s your least favorite mode of transportation?
Walking? It's too hot..or too cold..or too windy..or too rainy. And it takes forever..and my shoes are rubbing my feet wrong.

{four} if you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be? I don't think I'd want to stay any age forever. My first year in my 30's has been pretty fantastic so I'll say 30.

{five} when you have 30 minutes of free time, what do you use it to do?
This right here. I am currently using my free time. Actually, any time I'm not working is usually my free time. I'm pretty free...all of the time. ha.

{six} what do you miss the most about being a kid? I miss playing. I envy kids that can sit down with two dolls and create a world that only exists in their head. I feel like we lose our ability to imagine and play as we get older..which is kind of sad.

{seven} when was the last time you were nervous?
I get nervous all the time! Let's see...last time was today when my boss came to my desk and tapped me on the shoulder. I was on a phone call so he quickly asked that I come to his desk when I was done. The brief moments it took for me to wrap up my phone call I was a little nervous because I didn't know what he wanted..which turned out to be nothing really..of course.

{eight} what was the first thing you bough with your own money when you were young?
I don't remember. Probably food of some type.

{nine} what is your favorite month of the year?
April. It's starting to warm back up, but the breeze is still cool. Things are coming back to life, flowers blooming, lawns getting green, birds building nests on our patio.

{ten} what are 3 songs from the soundtrack of your life?
This is SO hard. Ok, these are just three (out of a gazillion):
1. Violent Femmes - 'Blister in the Sun'
2. The Presidents of the United States of America - 'Kitty'
3. Megadeath - 'Sweating Bullets'

Just In Case..

I know I've been posting some 'before/after' pictures lately. And I realized that some of y'all might not have been reading my blog long enough to know that I use to weigh over 200 lbs and about my journey to get healthy.

I use to blog about it (imagine that) over at A Fat Girl in the Real World. I don't post there anymore, but I keep it around and browse through it every now and again. Anyway, I thought I'd share the link in case any of you wanted to go and check it out..get some of the 'back story'.

Love Words

She laid her head on his bicep and turned to look up at him. His gaze drifted all over her face before a smile cracked his lips. "What?" she asked, lazily circling a finger across his chest. He reached out to touch a fingertip to her cheek in a light caress, "You get more beautiful with age." Their eyes locked for a moment before she looked away, feeling very self-aware under his intense perusal. But his next words brought her attention back to him, 'And I don't think I'll ever get enough of you."

Sock Bun Hair!

So, as I was browsing pinterest.com I came across a photo of a girl with pretty curls in her hair. Not tight curls, but gentle curls. The label was 'sock bun curls'. Sock bun? What the heck is that? As I looked further I found a video on youtube on how to use a sock to make a bun and/or curl your hair. {watch the videos! She is super cute with an accent and it explains everything you need to know about the sock bun}

I actually dreamt about this stupid sock bun last night so I woke up this morning thinking I needed to try it out. I stole a pair of my husband's black socks {sorry honey..they were sacrificed for the beauty cause} and went to experiment. After a few attempts, a tuck here and there, and a bobby pin or three this is what I ended up with:

And after wearing the sock bun all day long, this is what I ended up with at the end of the day. Not the same curls as the video but I'm not sure its because I didn't dampen my hair first or that my hair might not be quite long enough? Doesn't matter, the bun itself was a very cute up-do for a hot summer day.

Thank Goodness It's Friday!

1. My plans this summer include a trip to Dallas for Mayham Fest and to visit my sister, and cousin, and my little buttercup {i.e. my friend, Julia}.

2. The best summer I ever had was  so long ago that I can't remember? Honestly, I've been working full time since I was 18 years old. I lost my "summers" years and years ago so really these months are just more of the same for me.

3. Summer is the worst possible time for your AC to go out. It's hot up in here...real hot...really, super duper hot.

4. My favorite summer food is peaches. If you can buy them at just the right time they are like candy.

5. The best way to quench a summer thirst is with with a margarita...of course.

6. My summer uniform consists of shorts or capris, cute sandals, tank tops, and huge sunglasses.

7. The best thing about summer is that it's not cold. It might be hotter than Hades but I'd rather bake than freeze. I HATE being cold.

Rubbernecking into the past

Yesterday, while doing the daily crossword puzzle {I like to think it keeps my brain from turning to useless mush], one of the clues was 'rubberneck' {the word for the puzzle was 'gawk'..not really pertinent to this story but I know some of y'all would want to know}.

My ADD brain took off and I started thinking about the first time I ever heard the word rubberneck. It was in the seventh grade, during choir class. The choir class room was tiered so when you came in the door you were actually at the top of the risers. You had to walk down the stairs, stash your backpack, and make your way to your spot on the built in risers {short girls in the front..holla}. This left the door to our backs and anytime anyone would come in everyone wanted to turn and look. Well, our choir teacher would have none of that. She didn't want to lose our focus for a second and so she would reprimand us and tell us to stop 'rubbernecking'.

And that had me thinking about my seventh grade choir teacher. She was actually very cool. She told us a story about her trip to Paris. For some reason, she ended up staying on the ground at the Eiffel tower, while her travel companions went up. Maybe she was afraid of heights? Anyway, a man tried to ask her for directions in french {duh, they are in Paris under the Eiffel tower}. Problem was, she didn't speak fluent french..and neither did that man. But he didn't speak english either..his native language was German, which she didn't know. However, the both could speak Spanish. So, there she was, in Paris, under the Eiffel tower..an American who couldn't speak french or German..talking to a German who couldn't speak french or english...speaking spanish.

I also thought about that years UIL competition. Don't ask me what UIL stands for..I don't know. But, all the choirs in the area get together to compete against each other. We were performing 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and found out while waiting our turn that there were two other groups that performed this song and received poor ratings. The pressure was on but our teacher didn't seem concerned. Now, I know I have mentioned..maybe once or twice..that I have terrible stage fright so as we lined up to head on stage my knees starting shaking and I felt the tears start to prick my eyes. I didn't want to be a baby about this, but I was very, very nervous. My choir teacher came to calm me down. She pulled from her pocket a little black velvet bag and told me she had her lucky charm with her and she would bring it out and put it on top of the piano to help make me feel better. We made our way onto the stage and as I stood there trying to remember to breath, she placed her lucky charm on the piano and turned to catch my eye..and she winked at me. I made it through the song without passing out. And, we received top marks for our performance.

Yes! One crossword puzzle hint can send my thoughts scattering like this. You think I'm playing about the ADD...but I'm not.
