Stitch Fix #3 and that's a wrap.

Well, this will be my last Stitch Fix box. It was fun and exciting to anticipate the arrival of my Stitch Fix. But the actual products being sent to me were leaving me slightly disappointed.

I did everything I could have done to convey what I needed from Stitch Fix. I kept my Pinterest Style board up to date. I sent feedback on each item. I adjusted my style profile and price point. And after three boxes, I feel like they were only half listening.

First issue...the items were just too expensive. I let them know that when I would checkout. To which I got a generic email from Stitch Fix suggesting that I update my price point in my profile. So I did before I received this last box. But the price point for my items didn't change. So, while I love the gray top and the distressed jeans and the cardigan. I couldn't afford to keep all of them. I can't spend $48 (which was the lowest price in the entire box) for one item. I just can't. Especially when I feel like I could get items similar for far less at a store here in town. I did end up keeping the cardigan from this box, which was $48, but only because I had a $25 credit that I could apply towards it (thank you, Vicki). At this point, I feel like the only way anyone could continue to use the service is if they work hard to get several referrals to offset the cost of the items (or if they have a lot of spare cash sitting around). And, honestly, I'm a sucky sales person on a budget.

Second issue...my style. I'm not sure how many times I mentioned that I didn't want items that I couldn't wear a normal bra with. But I know it was more than once. And yet they kept sending me items that have necklines and or straps that would require a strapless or converted bra. Listen, I know there are tons of women out there who do not have a problem with wearing a strapless bra or a bandeau or a cami with a "built in bra"..but I'm not one of them. I asked for statement necklaces, and the above is what they sent me. I'm not trying to say the necklace is ugly, just not what I was thinking of (which reflects in the Pin's I added to my Pinterest board). And again, the cost of that necklace doesn't match the size or quality of the piece. I asked for a kimono, for the last two boxes, but didn't get anything of that nature. I asked for a purse, possibly a crossbody, but didn't get any type of bag. And the two pair of shoes they sent me were really quite ugly compared to the styles I have seen Stitch Fix share on their social media accounts.

So, while it was fun for a minute, and I'm still glad I tried it, I sent my email to officially cancel my Stitch Fix account (you actually have to email them to fully cancel your account, by the way). I'm going to stick with shopping via Instragram boutiques.

Stitch Fix #2 {Updated}

I wasn't expecting my next Stitch Fix box until Friday at the earliest. So, it was a nice surprise to come home yesterday and find it waiting for me on the kitchen table.

I like to think of my first Stitch Fix box as a 'getting to know you' box. The stylist are trying to figure me out so I opened it with that in mind. The styling of my first box wasn't spot on, and that's ok. I provided as much feedback as I could in hopes that this next box would be tweaked. And I wasn't disappointed. I can tell that this box has been styled to try and match my taste.

Item #1 - BC Footwear Dash Slip-on Sandal ($60) - {return}

These slip-on sandals aren't really my style. I found them to be a little clunky on my feet. Someone else might love them, they would go with many things. Very easy to just throw on but looks a little more put together than flip flops. But they just aren't for me.

Item #2 - Kut From the Kloth Hadleigh Wide Leg Denim Trouser ($80) {kept}

I mentioned that I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of trouser jeans. So my stylist (who is different than the stylist from my last box) sent me these. The fit is spot on (I'm not sure how they are doing that), but the length I'm not sure about. These are petite and I can't decide if they are too short with heels/wedges (see top photos) because they are slightly too long to wear with ballet flats (see bottom photos). What do y'all think? Would I be ok wearing them with my wedges? They don't look too short do they? If I couldn't wear them with my wedges then I would have to get them hemmed up slightly so I could wear them with ballet flats.

I need your advise!! Help a sister out!

Item #3 - Fun2Fun Katniss Crochet Yoke Top ($44) - {return}

I love the pattern of this shirt. The crochet detail at top is different and unique. I'd probably keep it, but the bottom hem of this shirt was a little tight around my hips and booty. So the style is right, but the fit was just a little off.

Item #4 Pixley Edolie Mixed Material Top ($54) {return}

I like this top a lot. It's more casual than the other tops in this box, which is fine with me. It's comfortable. I like that it has contrasting sides. I know it's hard to see in the photo, but it has a little bit of a hi-low hem, the back hem is longer than the front hem. I could dress this up or down.

Item #5 Daniel Rainn Sheera Split Neck Knit Top ($58) {return}

Another cute top that could easily be dressed up or down. It's not as casual as the top above and it's less of a "tank top" style, so I could probably get away with wearing this blouse to work.

I really loved that all the tops in this box were easy to throw on and go, but they all had really great pattern and color to them. The shoes were another miss, but that's ok. I'm really torn about the pants. They make me look skinny, so there is that, I'm just unsure of the length. I have a day or two to think it over before I decide. Tell me what y'all think of this box.

I ended up returned all the tops. I just couldn't justify the price of them. I adjusted the pricing on my style profile so we will see how my next box turns out. I did decide to keep the jeans. Everyone told me I should, so I listened to them.

"I love your top"

I can't even tell you how many compliments I received on my new Skies are Blue top from my Stitch Fix box. And the majority of them were from people who do not read this blog and had no idea what Stitch Fix was. I educated them all, of course. My friend Rhonda, who does read this blog (Hi Rhonda) told me that the pictures of this top don't do it justice. A woman standing behind me in line at the cable office asked me if the 'cold shoulder' style was comfortable because she was seeing a lot of it in her Neiman Marcus advertisements. Something about this top really makes people stop and take notice.

I'm really glad I decided to keep it. It isn't anything I would have picked out myself while shopping, so I'm glad my stylist sent it to me.

I couldn't wait to wear my Dear John shorts today! It's just a little cool outside so I threw on my favorite cardigan and I'm ready to relax the day away.

Stitch Fix #1 (updated)

My Stitch Fix box finally arrived!!! I knew it was coming, since I have been creeping on the USPS tracking number. And wouldn't you know that the mailman was on his way down our street just as we were pulling out to go grocery shopping. So I had to wait until we finished doing adulty, responsible, boring stuff before getting home to open my box.

For those of you that might not know what Stitch Fix is, here is a quick run down of how this service works:

1. Fill out your style profile -  Stitch Fix asks you a bunch of questions about what sizes you wear, what styles you prefer, what your lifestyle is like, and how much money you are looking to spend. They also give you the chance to share your social media links. Having an updated STYLE board on Pinterest is very helpful.

2. Schedule your Stitch Fix for delivery - You have some flexibility on how often you get a Stitch Fix and when it will be delivered (like around a pay day?). They send you a selection of five clothing items and accessories handpicked by personal stylists on the date you choose (or around that day, mine was a day late..no big deal, just be prepared). At the time your stylist selects your items, you will be charged a $20 styling fee. That $20 will be applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment. And if you DON'T keep anything, you still pay the $20. To avoid hours in the store, I say its a small price to pay.

3. Try everything on in the comfort of your home - This is probably the best part. Y'all don't even know how many times I've stood in a dressing room for MUCH too long mentally going through my closet. With this service, you can try the pieces on with whatever you already have to make sure its right for you.

4. Buy what you like and return the rest - You have THREE days to think it over. In the meantime, you can take a lot of pictures and blog about it...and send texts to your squad for opinions. You can check out once you are signed into your account on Stitch Fix. The $20 styling fee will be applied as credit towards any items you purchase. If you buy all five items, we’ll give you 25% off the entire purchase! You can return any items you don't want in the pre-paid mailing bag that is provided and drop it at any USPS mailbox.

5. And the MOST IMPORTANT step - Provide feedback - You may not keep anything in a box. The best way to ensure that your next box is even better is to tell them what you liked and/or didn't like about each item that they sent.

Since this is my first Stitch Fix, my stylist (Hillary) told me that she pulled a variety of pieces so they can really start narrowing down my style preferences. This is where the feedback will come into play. It's up to me to communicate my likes and dislikes to my stylist, so they can adjust the styling of my boxes.

Item #1 - Dead John Finnegan Roll Cuff Short ($58) - {Kept}

Shorts and I have a love/hate relationship. West Texas summers demand that shorts be worn, but my thighs usually put up a protest. Either shorts are TOO short or the waist is too low or the leg holes are too tight or...well, you get the idea. So, it was nice to slip these shorts on and not have anything squeezing me, the length is very nice, and the waist is high enough that I don't feel like I'd show butt crack if I bent over.

Item #2 - THML Furonda Embroidered Top ($58) - (Returned)

First off, I love the pattern of this top. The detail around the collar is lovely. However, I'm not a huge fan of the neckline. I don't own a strapless bra and wouldn't want to wear one in my day to day life. My stylist suggested wearing this top with a cardigan, so I tried that out. And while wearing the top with a cardigan provided a work around for the bra business, this specific top also has an elastic drop waist. I might have been sold on the top (with a cardigan over it) if it had been a straight fit down to the hem.

Item #3 - THML Chana Embroidered Dress ($68) - {Returned}

My feelings about this dress are much like the top. Loved the detail, but the cut of the neckline is not for me. This dress was offered up by my stylist as an option as a beach cover up (In my note to my stylist I mentioned we were going to the beach on vacation). While I give my stylist two thumbs up for acknowledging my request, I felt like this dress was much too nice to take to the beach.

Item #4 - Skies are Blue Peverell Cold Shoulder Top ($54) - {Kept}

I wasn't sure about this top when I first put it on (with the boyfriend jeans). The ruffle around the top seemed a little too flouncy for me. This was the first thing I tried on, so I put it aside and tried on everything else before I was struck by inspiration. On my styling card, this top was styled with a light blue pencil skirt. While I didn't have a brightly colored pencil skirt I do have a few pairs of bright jewel toned shorts. I pulled out my hot pink Bermuda shorts and all of the sudden the top is growing on me.

Item #5 - Diba Tango Fringe Sandal ($70) - {Returned}

I love the look of these sandals. Fringe is trending right now. But I loved them less so while on my feet. I tried them on with the Dear John shorts as well as my outfit above (yes, I AM wearing my Bold Stripe Stripe top the day after I got it, don't judge me!). I'm not sure what is putting me off. Maybe the color is too dark? Maybe they have a little too much fringe? Not matter what it is, these cute sandals were not for me.

So there you have it!! It was so exciting to explore my first Stitch Fix box. Even if I didn't love all the pieces, I loved everything about the experience. And can I just say how pleased I am that nothing was too small. There wasn't a piece that I couldn't get over my head, or buttoned up, or zipped on. I was a little worried about that.
