Did I forget to talk about Halloween?

“I think a lot more people are getting into Halloween because it's the one time of year where adults can be kids.” ~ Craig McDonald

When we first moved into our house five or so years ago I was so excited about Halloween. I couldn't wait to carve pumpkins and pass out tons of candy to all the neighborhood kids. Before, when we lived in an apartment no one saw our pumpkins and there were no trick-or-treaters. My dreams of a busy Halloween were crushed, however, when we didn't get many trick-or-treaters at all and were left with a whole bunch of candy. Parents just do not take their kids door-to-door anymore. It's all about the school festivals, church festivals, and local trunk-or-treat events. I think all of those community events are great, but I'm still a little sad that door-to-door trick-or-treating has gone by the wayside.

So, over the years my enthusiasm for the season has ebbed. We are down to just plopping some uncarved pumpkins on our porch and this year we pulled the curtains and turned off the porch light. The only vistors we had were my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and my nephew. But, dispite all that we had one of the best halloweens in a while. We actually went to a costume party, which was tons and tons of fun. And I actually dressed up for work. That's more than we have done for years during Halloween season.

So, all in all, it was a success. Here are a few pictures from our Halloween fun:

  1. Hi,
I found you via the creative bloggers site. It looks like you had fun on Halloween. I live in a small town in Northern Cal and the whole town goes trick or treating. It's quite amazing really. I have photos on my blog if you want to see glimpses of an old fashioned holiday. We have a Victorian district and the mansions looked like Hollywood screen sets with fog, mist, zillions of pumpkins, lights, ghosts etc. The cutest things were the little dogs in their costumes.
