Where I Come From

Describe where or what you come from.
The people, the places, and/or the factors that make up who you are.

When I ask myself 'where do you come from' the first thing I think of is HERE. Texans have a lot of state pride. But, for me, its a little more than that. My family is a very large and well documented Texas-German family. They came straight to Texas from Olfen, Westfalen (Germany) in 1846 to find farming land. Besides the area of Westphalia, Texas (between Waco and Austin), my family has lived in the area between San Angelo and Ballinger, TX for generations.  Both of my maternal grandparents grew up in farming families around this area. During my grandpa's military career their family moved around a lot, including Japan and Iran. When he retired from the Air Force in 1973, they moved the family back home and have lived in San Angelo ever since.

I was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas. It's the only home I have ever known, the only town I have ever lived in. Chances are I might not ever live anywhere else and, for the most part, I'm ok with that. Even though we are a tad remote, and that can grate on my nerves sometimes, I have deep roots here.

Texas is in my blood and West Texas is in my soul.

  1. I think it must be so interesting to have such deep roots in one place. So much history and so much pride. I felt like I had a little bit of that when my family lived in Maryland and my grandparents were still alive. I don't really feel like I have those kind of roots anymore, but I guess my husband's family's roots are deep enough for the both of us :)

  2. You are a Texan through and through, and have all the claims to it!! And ya know, even though I say I wouldn't live anywhere in Texas other than Austin, I'm sure if my roots connected me there I'd be all about it. There are definitely some beautiful places here, and lots and lots with character!
