Just Jinny..On Vacation

Can I just tell y'all how much I hate driving to Dallas? It is a really, really boring drive..and it feels like it takes forever. So, to try to break up some of the monotony we took a round-about way and headed to Dublin, TX. We stopped to have an original Dublin Dr Pepper (in a glass bottle)

There was an old fashioned deli and gift shop {did you know you could buy Dr Pepper cake batter?}. You could take a tour of the bottling factory, we didn't take it. It was just a quick stop to stretch our legs and have a drink. Outside there was a huge sandcastle. I'm sure you could have watched it be built but it looked like it had been there for a while, although still in perfect condition.

I took over the driving from this point because I'd been eyeballing the map for days and knew where we were going up in the cray-cray Metroplex. I was so proud of myself because I did not miss ONE exit on all our different exchanges to get to the restaurant where we were meeting my sister and my bestie, Jonessa and her husband. However, finding the actual restaurant turned out to be a bit of a challenge. My STUPID GPS had us all turned around and sitting on top of a 'blue dot' that didn't exist. So, wild goose chase to end up in a 7-11 parking lot..which was NOT the restaurant. But, after a phone call to Jonessa, in which I spoke to both her AND her husband, we found our way to the restaurant.

Dinner was delicious. And it was great to see Jonessa {we try to at least have dinner..or brunch..or something..anytime I'm in town} and her husband. Just when I thought we would be getting our bill, the waiter brings out a box and plates. Jonessa had bought me a birthday cake. So, the waiter lit the one candle and everyone sang happy birthday{quietly..lol}.

Jonessa, Me, my Seester

I have to admit..I was not looking forward to the Mayhem Fest. Mainly because of the brutal summer we've been having. It was officially 105 on Wednesday. But, out in the middle of the concrete oasis that was the concert grounds it was probably more like 112. At least, that's what it felt like. We made it from 1:30 to 9:30, without passing out..or getting sun burnt. I call that a success! I couldn't possibly tell you about Mayhem Fest like the husband...so go and read about the event here {there are even more pictures}.

If y'all recall, my Eversave.com coupon giveaway...which was an epic fail, was for a coupon to a Plano area Sushi restaurant. My cousin was actually the "winner" (i.e. only one that entered) of that coupon, so on Thursday we went to lunch with her at Geisha Steak and Sushi. Let me tell y'all, if you live in or around this area and didn't enter my coupon giveaway..you missed out. We had a Queen roll {snow crab, avocado, cucumber, topped with yellowtail and jalapeno}, a Spicy Salmon roll, a Rainbow roll, and Tuna Sashimi. After the coupon was applied our bill was a whopping $13.00. And every single bite was wonderful. I'm craving it right now. MMMM....Sashimi. I would have taken pictures..but that would have required me to stop eating..and that wasn't happening.

The drive home was boring..and uneventful. We just wanted to HURRY UP and get back. Its nice to get away, but nothing beats sleeping in your own bed. And I slept like the dead.

  1. You look soooo pretty! :)

Driving in Dallas is awful. I feel like if I don't drive really fast to keep up with everyone else that I'll get run over or into!

I am *super* jealous that y'all stopped in Dublin. I've (surprisingly) never been there and it is a LONG drive from where I live.

So glad you had an excellent birthday! Have a great weekend!
