Texas Sunsets

“Sunsets are so beautiful that they almost seem as if we were looking through the gates of Heaven.” ~ John Lubbock

It is nearly impossible, in my opinion, to capture the beauty of a Texas sunset. People try all the time, myself included. The pictures might turn out very well but the sunset is still flat in comparison to the real thing.

Many years ago when I first brought up the idea of moving out of Texas my husband was instantly against the idea. It wasn't something we were arguing about, but we had been discussing it on and off. Around the same time we went out of town to watch my sister play soccer in a near by town. As we were coming home the sun was setting and the sky was set on fire. My sister was asleep in the backseat and we were silent in the front. My husband then said to me 'Do you really think you can leave this?'

I can't explain the feeling I get when the sun sets just right to make the sky light up with oranges, yellows, pinks, purples, and blues. I always tell my husband that I know its going to be a good night when the there is a beautiful sunset in the sky. I've never had the chance to compare other sunsets outside of Texas, I'm sure there are plenty of other places around the world that have breath-taking sunsets. But, I'm bias...very much so, towards the Texas sunset. There is just nothing like it. It is like looking into heaven for a brief moment. That's where my heart is...in the Texas sunset...and it always will be no matter where I might move.
